"Contemplating Cerino, at the Steamers Grill Halloween Ball" |
- Visit the Bar Art online gallery page -- About the creation of "Contemplating Cerino, at the Steamers Grill Halloween Ball" Like all of the bar paintings I have done, this piece is based on an actual place and occurrence. It is from a photo shoot I did on Halloween 2009 at Steamers Grillhouse, an upscale bar and restaurant in Los Gatos California. The figures are based on candid shots of actual party goers at the ball. I tried to capture the bar and amazing architecture of the ceiling as well, but painted them using impressionism, where as the realistic figure was painted in layers over several months using methods similar to those used by Divinci. As an artist, I have my own vision, that is separate from the actual photos I use as reference, the intangible elements that defy words, but can only be expressed - hopefully- with imagery. I found the contrast between the upscale beautiful people atmosphere, and the steamy bar scene an ironic, classic and interesting metaphor, which was also much used by the impressionists. In this pieceI used classical painting techniques, the painting took months to complete. For more insight or information into this piece please contact me directly.
